Senior School (Years 10-12)

Welcome to the Senior School

The Senior School at Mernda Central College frames the Senior Years of schooling as Years 10 – 12 of the P-12 Continuum.

Senior Schooling is a key phase of education where students take greater responsibility for their own learning in preparing for their future. The Mernda Central College Senior School is a most important phase in the final stages of a young person’s secondary education.

It is staffed by experienced Senior School educators and is an environment in which students and staff work together in a supportive learning environment, while working towards the successful completion of Secondary Education. Students in the Senior School are supported and assisted by a very experienced and dedicated team of educators. Their commitment to students is demonstrated by their ongoing availability to provide support, advice and counselling in relation to both schooling and post-schooling options as well as a willingness to assist with personal difficulties that may be experienced by students from time to time.

Our expert teachers specialise in the needs of young adults. They see the student as a whole person, an individual who needs adult support and guidance during one of the most important transition stages of their life. Staff help the student make the transition from adolescence to adulthood, and life beyond the College, as smooth as possible and at the same time, help the student become a lifelong learner with strong moral values.

Senior School is a time where students develop skills, knowledge and pathways to work, and further study.

The Year 10 program is designed to enable students to begin considering their future pathway options, empowering students to have further choice in their learning across core curriculum. Year 10 begins to narrow student focus towards individual pathways. We offer intensive career counselling processes which enable students to begin thinking about their best pathway to success in the senior years.
