Welcome to the Japanese Enhancement Program
Mernda Central College has a high-quality Japanese program renowned for its innovations, initiatives in teaching and learning, and established connections to Japan. Students can study Japanese from Prep right through to VCE, and the program provides a range of opportunities to develop their language skills and understanding of Japanese culture.
Mernda Central College provides the opportunity for once-in-a-lifetime study tours to Japan and has an established connection with a school in Kyushu, Japan.
Mernda Central College welcomes visitors from Japan frequently and has a Japanese language assistant to work with students to develop their communication skills. The College also has many language texts and resources available for students to inspire curiosity and a passion for the language and culture.
Opportunities
Students can learn the art of traditional Japanese drumming.
Communication with students at our Sister School in Kyushu, both through visits and online classes.
Content Language Integrated Learning opportunities for bilingual instruction, where students can be taught another subject through the language of Japanese.
A variety of clubs through which students can develop and enhance their skills in Japanese, cooking, and origami clubs where they can build on their cultural awareness.
